What are “clean” body care products and how are they beneficial?

These days, we often hear or come across brands and products that claim to be "clean". Puzzled by what that means?

Clean skincare simply means skincare that is free from toxins and is quite transparent about what ingredients it does and does not contain.

However, there is no one standard or certifying body which tests and verifies and labels products that are “clean”. However, a general guide is to avoid some known skin irritants SLS, PEGs and parabens (See my last blog article).

Why Is Clean Skincare becoming more important?

As consumers become more aware of things that may be toxic, irritating or harmful to their skin and health, clean skincare products like body washes, body cleansers, shower gels, shower foams, body lotions, body moisturizers, body creams and body butters, aim to offer reassurance that they don’t use these potentially harmful ingredients.

The growth of clean beauty follows the trend in clean eating or veganism. Clean eating has been growing in popularity. To many people, this means eating a plant-based, vegan diet.

The growth of such trends is generally a good thing - People are becoming more aware of the ingredients that go into their products and are searching for products that will help them feel that they are taking control of their health and wellbeing and making choices that are best for their bodies.

They aren’t content with just buying something and putting it on their faces or bodies; they want the skincare items they purchase to make a difference.

Clean beauty is a lifestyle choice in line with #Selfcare

“Clean beauty” is also often used interchangeably with “natural skin care products” or products with botanical ingredients. We have observed growing lifestyle choices that many consumers make to “be better to their bodies”.

At The Scent Apothecary, we believe deeply in the choice of #Selfcare. Many of us live lives that are stressful, rushed and we often feel like we are in a pressure-cooker or on a never-ending treadmill. However, #Selfcare doesn’t need to be costly, time-consuming or complicated.

In the midst of everyday busy-ness, cultivate the habit to take a breathe. For instance, close your eyes for 30 seconds and inhale a calming or tension relief essential oil blend. This can happen while you are busy working on your laptop at your desk or even in a meeting while on a restroom break!

At the end of every day, use your shower/bath time to unwind. Using clean body wash, body cleansers, shower gels or shower foams naturally scented with pure essential oil blends can also be a delightful time of #Selfcare. As you wash away the stress of the day, inhale the natural and lovely scents and your mood will be better.

Your bedtime ritual can also include applying a body butter, body cream, body lotion or body moisturizer, again scented with pure essential oil blends and as you apply, inhale in the scent to help soothe your senses and prepare you for a good night’s rest.

At The Scent Apothecary, we truly want to transform ordinary daily moments into delightful #Selfcare moments!
